Our shared vision for 2050

"Queensland's primary industries are profitable, productive and sustainable for future generations. United, we will empower our regional communities to be bold and prosperous."

Government and industry must work together to address our strategic challenges and realise our opportunities. We must harness them to prosper and be competitive, not only for today, but for future generations.

Our shared purpose

Primary Industries Prosper 2050 (Prosper 2050) is a blueprint that will see Queensland's primary industries thrive, and be economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable for the future. It will set the scene for ongoing prioritisation and the development of coordinated, targeted action.

Transforming together, industry and government have set a new pathway to 2050 for our agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors including the broader primary industries supply chain. It is a vision for a bold future that is prosperous for business, our communities and the environment.

This 25-year blueprint is a collective strategy co-owned by the primary industries sector including government and industry. It sets a strong foundation for future prosperity, supports food security, and builds resilient regional communities. It sends a clear message to investors that Queensland's primary industries are open for business and ready to grow.

Aligning to Prosper 2050: the Queensland Future Timber Plan 2050

As part of Prosper 2050, the Queensland Future Timber Plan 2050 outlines a 25-year strategy specifically for the forestry and timber industry.

Our vision for 2050

Queensland timber is one of the state’s most valued renewable resources.

We invest in the forests that produce timber and timber products and manage them sustainably to provide an ongoing asset for future generations.

Forests and timber products are economic generators that deliver our homes, our infrastructure, and the environment that our communities enjoy.

Our shared purpose

To deliver a world-leading sustainable, competitive, innovative and responsive forestry and timber industry that is valued by the community.

This industry will produce high-value products that:

  • support the construction needs of our growing urban and regional communities,
  • have strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) credentials based on science
  • provide a diverse range of meaningful jobs, particularly in regional communities.

Why Prosper 2050 matters

Queensland's primary industries are at a turning point. Global demand for sustainable food, fibre, and foliage is growing fast, yet so too are the pressures we face.

At the same time, emerging AgTech, home-grown innovations, new and diverse markets, and new bioeconomy products offer extraordinary opportunities to grow, transform, and boost profitability and productivity.

The need for unified action has never been greater.

Co-delivering

Prosper 2050 will be implemented through targeted co-designed and co-delivered actions to deliver on-ground outcomes for our regions, sectors and the broader state. We will be united and accountable in delivery, with our first suite of delivery from 2026-2030.

Actions will collectively deliver against a range of broader initiatives under our joint strategic priority areas. Our strategic priority areas will focus our efforts to realise the shared Prosper 2050 vision and set a platform for future success.

We will ensure accountability by fostering strong, collaborative industry and whole of government governance. Together, we will keep government and industry on track by measuring progress and reporting outcomes through a robust, co-designed monitoring and evaluation framework.
